Before excoriating an entire religion a caveat is in order: There are many very good and very peaceful Muslims. We must be careful to guard against prejudice and should always judge people as individuals based upon their own character. Nothing in the following should be seen as a license for bigotry or hatred of any kind.
While there are of course many ethical Muslims, nevertheless, Islam today is a dangerous religion and a serious threat to peace. It is also a serious threat to western civilization. Islam today is, for the most part, radical Islam. It is by no means moderate. Islam today is controlled by radical Muslims who seek to destroy not only Israel and America but all of western civilization. Islam today is an Islam based upon Jihad. It is an Islam of war and violence. It is an Islam of terrorism and fanaticism. It is an Islam of misogyny and tyranny. It is an Islam that must be confronted, contained, and to the extent possible, destroyed.
The trouble with Islam is that it’s not just a religion; Islam is also a violent political ideology that seeks to impose Islamic law (Sharia) upon the entire world. Radical Islam seeks to destroy all of Western civilization. Be it the United States, France, Canada, Australia, or Britain, radical Muslims want all those governments destroyed and replaced with Sharia law. Due to political correctness far too many in the West are unwilling to confront the problem of radical Islam directly. Instead they prefer to be willfully blind to the enemy in their midst. This enemy is crafty and cunning; this enemy takes advantage of the openness and tolerance of the West in order to seek its annihilation.
When will we finally wake up to the enemy in our midst? For how much longer will some continue to be willfully blind to the danger of radical Islam? Will the West wake up before it’s too late? The attacks of September 11th 2001 were 23 years ago this month but little has changed. Radical Islam still seeks our annihilation and yet liberals in the West still bury their heads in the sand. The rights and values that the progressive Left claims to cherish are the very same rights and values radical Islam seeks to destroy, namely, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, equality, diversity, and democracy.
In the 23 years since the 9/11 attacks there have been not hundreds but thousands of terrorist attacks and terrorist plots all over the world. The overwhelming majority of these attacks and plots were not committed by Jews, Christians, Hindus, or atheists. They were committed by Muslims in the name of Allah. On a global scale, radical Islam is second to none when it comes to terrorist attacks upon innocent civilians. Rather than confronting these facts, many on the Left would rather lecture us about so-called “Islamophobia” while simultaneously allowing more and more immigration from Islamic countries.
The horrific atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7th of last year and the September 11th attacks 23 years ago have a common thread: radical Islam. Over the last 23 years, the same common thread of radical Islam has been evident inJihadist attacks all over the world, from London to Mumbai to Boston and every place in between. Be it Manchester or Madrid, Orlando or Ottawa, radical Islam continues to maim and kill. The instances of Islamic terrorism are too many to count, too many to remember. How quickly we have become complacent. How quickly we forget. Whether it be ISIS, Hamas, Al Qaeda, Iran, the Taliban, Hezbollah, or Boko Haram, they all share a common source: radical Islam.
We must learn the lessons of 9/11 and 10/7. We must confront radical Islam and defeat it. Western nations should drastically curtail immigration from Muslim countries. Any Muslim immigrants to the West must be carefully vetted and they must embrace the values of western civilization and reject the barbarism of radical Islam. Any Muslim immigrants who express support for terrorism or who refuse to embrace western values should be swiftly and permanently deported. Our borders must be fully secured and law enforcement should not shy away from profiling Muslims if there is reasonable suspicion of criminal activity. Islamist regimes such as Iran must be sanctioned and isolated.
As we mark the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 we must continue to honor the memory of the victims; the best way to do that is to see to it that it never happens again. 23 long years after 9/11 will we finally learn the lessons of that horrible day or will we wait until radical Islam strikes again?
