Religious/spiritual people have lower rates of depression and faster recovery from bouts of depression. On the other hand, studies show that atheists tend to have higher rates of depression & suicide. Why do you suppose this is? I assert that, as I've always said, atheism at its core is an utterly & profoundly depressing proposition. You might try to run away from that fact by saying that you're "free" and that eventually you'll be turned into Stardust and that's somehow cool. But I think deep down people know better and that while a person who believes in God and Heaven look forward to great joy in eternity you look forward to nothing but being worm food. While a religious person knows that every single action he takes has deep cosmic significance, an atheist believes that his actions, no matter how impressive, ultimately have no cosmic significance whatsoever. How depressing!
